Franks
If you're strolling through Leigh-on-Sea and craving a spot that strikes a delicious balance between flair and flavor, Franks on Broadway is a name you’re going to want to remember. Tucked away at 109-111 Broadway, this Southend-on-Sea gem has become something of a culinary anchor in the area - especially for those who appreciate bold dishes, vibrant cocktails, and an atmosphere that hums with energy.
From the moment you walk through the wheelchair-accessible entrance, you’re met with a space that feels effortlessly cool but never pretentious. Franks nails that elusive combination of being trendy and welcoming, making it a favorite for solo diners and groups alike, especially at lunchtime or dinner. No surprise, really - it’s the kind of place where the music’s good, the lighting’s just right, and the drinks flow with flair.
Let’s talk food - because at Franks, the menu is a parade of bold, global influences and carefully curated plates. One of the crowd-pleasers? The Fish Tacos. Lightly battered, perfectly crisp, and laid over a bed of slaw with just the right amount of tang, they manage to be both comforting and refreshing. Want something snacky but bursting with flavor? Go for the Padron Peppers. Charred just right with a dash of flaky salt, they’re the kind of small plate you’ll order “just to nibble” and finish within minutes.
Now, if you’re in the mood for something a little more indulgent, Franks doesn’t disappoint. Their Lamb Barbacoa is rich, slow-cooked, and deeply satisfying - paired beautifully with a bold red wine. Meanwhile, the Beef Fillet Tiradito brings Peruvian flair to the table, striking a perfect balance between citrusy zing and silky, melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Vegetarians and vegans aren’t afterthoughts here, either. The Caprese Salad is far from basic, with creamy burrata that sings alongside fresh tomatoes and a herby olive oil drizzle. If you’re leaning plant-based, you’ll also find Cucumber Salad and a solid selection of vegan-friendly small plates that don’t compromise on flavor. Plus, there’s a quiet hero on the menu that deserves more attention: the Baked Potato. Don’t underestimate its charm - it’s loaded, crisp on the outside, and comforting in all the right ways.
Of course, no meal at Franks would be complete without something sweet. Churros make a triumphant appearance here - crisp, golden, and served with a rich chocolate dip that could convert even the most dessert-averse diner. Prefer something more refined? The Panna Cotta and Crème Brûlée are both creamy, smooth, and served with just enough flourish to remind you you’re in the right place.
Drinks? Oh, they know what they’re doing. Whether you’re here for an early evening Espresso Martini, a weekend Aperol Spritz, or a Mai Tai that instantly transports you to a beach somewhere, the cocktail list at Franks hits all the right notes. There’s also a solid wine selection, craft beer, and even organic drink options if you’re leaning toward a cleaner sip.
It’s not just about the food and drinks, though. The vibe here is something special - helped along by live music nights that add a warm pulse to the space. And while they don’t offer takeaway or delivery, that’s kind of the point. Franks is the type of place you go to, not order from. It’s meant to be experienced in the moment - whether you’re digging into a Sunday Roasted Chicken with friends or sipping cocktails solo at the bar.
And for those looking for something quick yet delicious? Franks offers small plates and quick bites that keep things casual without ever feeling rushed. Whether you’re popping in for a nibble or settling in for a multi-course indulgence, the flexibility of the menu means you can craft your own experience.
From its well-balanced offering of meat, seafood, and vegetarian options to its confident cocktail game and vibrant atmosphere, Franks earns its stripes as more than just another restaurant - it’s a destination in its own right. A stylish yet relaxed spot that brings a little taste of everything to the heart of Leigh-on-Sea.

The food was absolutely delicious, we had the roast (Beef and Nut Roast), both were filling but not too heavy. The staff were friendly and helpful. Absolutely recommend next time you're in Leigh-On-Sea!
I mean it’s like feeling like you’re at home, however the food served to you and the family are happy. Choice for people who like something a bit different or keeping the old man happy (if you know what I mean). Don’t really have a bad word to say. And this won’t be the last time I go. My favourite dishes are in the photos curiosity of the mrs sick photography skilllllzzzzz.
I have been to Franks on various occasions, and it never disappoints. I came here on my birthday in January, and the service was great and the food and drinks was even better. Even stopped by on Valentine’s Day to have drinks at the bar. Not many places in the broadway can compete with Franks level of delicious cocktails and their pricing. My favourite place to visit down the broadway, stopping by Franks is a must!
Had a great time here, Sunday lunch was a success! Atmosphere was perfect and the service was top notch - young and playful team without overstepping the line. Attentive and topping our wine was a nice touch that sometimes restaurants are too busy to do. Loui made a fantastic impression on us. He managed to keep his distance but was right there the second we needed something, there were times it was quieter in between tables leaving and being prepared for the next reservation but the staff didn’t look bored or hang around chatting, they kept busy and professional. It felt like we were being looked after by a team that wanted to be in hospitality rather than employees in between studies there for the pay cheque. A nice surprise was I always have to repeat my drink twice when I order anywhere we go, as it’s quite old fashioned, and this was the first time in a long time I didn’t have to. I was expecting it to be wrong when it arrived but it wasn’t! And it was served with all the right garnish! Last but not least. The food! Delicious, hot and tasty. The meat was tender. Great portions. I couldn’t fault anything. Well done Franks, we’ll be back!
Decided to pop to Franks on a Wednesday and was pleasantly surprised it had a lovely atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful , we went for a smash burger which was tasty, and served with a plentiful amount of fries. Our little dog was welcome too!! We’ll be back
